I’ve had Honey/Molina on the brain recently, so I thought I’d try my hand at a fanmix. I’ve never done this before, but I hope you enjoy, haha. This isn’t so much a coherent narrative taking place in one universe, but a series of relationship snapshots arranged in somewhat chronological order.
Sorry for the basic-ass song choices, but I decided to stick to my own library and most of that didn’t really fit the ~vibe~ lol.

01 Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dark Necessities
Pick you up like a paperbackThis song could fit both of them, but the bouncy RHCP groove and writing give it a more Molina vibe, as does the “it is what it is” attitude about personal darkness. Honey always struck me as more angsty than that, lol. Plus (and I don’t know where it came from, but) I have this headcanon that Molina has a coke habit when he’s not in murder-mode, because he seems like the kind of person that needs some kind of kick in his day-to-day life.
With the track record of a maniac
So I move it in and we unpack
It’s the same as yesterday
02 The Psychedelic Furs – Love My Way
They’d put us on a railroadA darker way to read the song. Molina trying to convince Honey to indulge in his darker impulses and not get caught up in matters of morality. It being a new wave song is a bonus, as Molina seems to be fond of those.
They’d dearly make us pay
For laughing in their faces
And making it our way
03 Meduza feat. Dermot Kennedy – Paradise
It will set you freeI may be biased because I listened to this approximately 300 times while writing my fics Sweet Tooth and Passenger’s Seat, but I think it still works. What are those thousand miles? Girlfriends, kids, plans of parenticide, moral qualms? Insistence on no homo? The 20 centimeters of space between your air mattresses? Whatever it is, it’s worth crossing.
If you just tell me
Every secret
I’ll listen
04 Placebo – For What It’s Worth
For what it’s worth“I’ll do anything for you but I’m kind of toxic and into some crazy shit” sounds very Molina to me. I see Honey as someone who feels very stepped-on in his regular life and might be very receptive to someone putting him on a pedestal, being laser-focused on him, and letting him lead—well, making him feel like he is leading.
I’d tear the sun in three
To light up your eyes
05 Chris Isaak – Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing
I hurts so badObvious choice is obvious, but let’s say the Bad Bad Thing is murder instead of cheating. I like reading this song as the push and pull between Honey struggling with the knowledge of Molina’s secret— “I’m so relieved you know” —and Molina being unwilling to let him go.
When you finally know
just how low, low, low, low, low she’ll go
06 Gustavo Bravetti – Babel
InstrumentalA dark electronic instrumental track. The way the baseline and tinkling guitar work together brings to mind a symbiotic relationship between two people who contrast and complete each other. Molina as the supporting baseline and Honey as the theatrical moody guitar.
07 Emily Browning – Close Enough to Kill
You came into my worldThinking about how Molina might be attracted to the darkness in Honey’s character, so he does his best to cultivate it and isolate Honey from the most positive influences in his life that tether him to (relative) decency. Honey is aware of this but unable and maybe unwilling to stop it.
And I let you take it all
Down on the ground
Where you taught me how to crawl
08 Buckethead – Datura
InstrumentalThis slow trippy instrumental track that transforms into a faster melody halfway through makes me think of two people in a twisted downward (or upward) spiral where they have great synergy but bring out the worst in each other, to the detriment of other people.
09 Depeche Mode – Halo
When the walls come tumbling inHoney’s conscience is catching up to him again and they might be at a breaking point. Kind of the reverse version of Close Enough to Kill but with an air of finality.
Though we may deserve it
It will be worth it
10 Dark Rooms – I Get Overwhelmed
No childrenA bit of a post-canon AU thing, but there’s just something about a guilt- and PTSD-stricken Honey refusing help and slowly alienating everyone around him until a certain someone shows up to make it better again. Or worse, depending on how you look at it.
Just emptiness
No place like home
Just a fucking mess
11 Modern English – I Melt With You
There’s nothing you and I won’t doA happy ending (for the two of them at least). The life and identity Honey built for himself might be falling apart, but that’s alright as long as they’re together, hand in immoral hand, as the kids say.
I’ll stop the world and melt with you
